BC Peace River Grain Industry Development Council

With close to 2.5 million acres in production, the Peace Region is the largest agricultural region in British Columbia, and home to some 1,800 farms, producing well over $100 million worth of product annually.

Since 1990, the BC Peace River Grain Industry Development Council has been actively involved in the research and development activities for this area which produces almost 90% of the province’s grain and 95% of the canola.  Council administers four levies on grain, oilseed, pulses, and forage seed crops grown in the BC Peace River Regional District.  This amounts to nearly $1.3 million contributed to projects which improve and enhance the viability of this very important sector of the provincial economy.

From 1997 – 2019 the Council administered the Peace River Agriculture Development Fund, providing an additional  $2.4 million in research and development funds for all agricultural sectors in the region.  The PRAD fund is now closed.
